LPG Engineer for Off-Grid Northantsinstallation, repair & servicingfor rural Corby, Oundle & Rutland homes

If your home runs on LPG, you need a Gas Safe engineer with the LPG endorsement — not a mains-gas-only installer. We install, service and repair LPG boilers and pipework across the off-grid villages of Northants, Rutland and Leicestershire.

    • Gas Safe LPG endorsement
    • Worcester & Vaillant LPG approved
    • Tank-to-boiler full system
    • 12-year manufacturer warranty

LPG — installation, repair, servicing & pipework

Off-grid heating that performs as well as anything on the mains

Around 4 million UK homes are off the gas mains. In our patch — rural Northants, Rutland villages, and the more isolated Leicestershire stretches — that's a significant share of the housing stock. LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is the most common workaround: bulk-stored in a tank in the garden, piped into the property, and used to fuel a near-identical condensing boiler.

All major boiler manufacturers (Worcester, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Viessmann) make LPG-specific versions of their condensing boilers — often the same chassis as the mains-gas version with a different burner injector. Performance, efficiency and warranty terms are equivalent. The big difference is the supply side: tank, regulator, changeover valve, leak detection and meter testing are all part of the LPG engineer's job, not the gas supplier's.

Our engineers hold the LPG endorsement on his Gas Safe registration — the additional ticket required to legally work on LPG installations. We handle everything from new tank-to-boiler installs, regulator changes, full system commissioning, annual servicing and emergency leak response.

    What happens if you wait

LPG done by a mains-gas-only engineer is illegal — and dangerous

Gas Safe registration alone doesn't permit work on LPG. The engineer needs a separate LPG endorsement (CMDDA1 or CONGLP1PD plus the appliance ticket). Plenty of mains engineers will work on LPG anyway 'because it's the same gas' — it isn't. LPG is heavier than air, settles in low spots, and behaves differently in pipework and combustion.

Tank-side issues (regulator failure, perished pigtails, ground subsidence) are routinely missed by engineers without LPG-specific training. The result: nuisance lockouts at best, gas leaks at worst.

    • Engineers without LPG endorsement working illegally on tank pipework
    • Regulator failure causing under-pressure boiler lockouts (often misdiagnosed as boiler fault)
    • Perished pigtails (tank-to-regulator hoses) leaking — easy to miss, dangerous if ignored
    • Wrong burner injector fitted on conversion — incomplete combustion, soot, CO risk
    • Tank ground subsidence pulling on pipework — long-term leak risk
    • Mains-gas-spec inhibitor doses on LPG systems — inadequate for combi protection

    Our process

From first call to job done — exactly what to expect

    1. 01

      Survey & supplier coord

Tank position, distance to property, regulator, gas pipe route, boiler location surveyed. We coordinate with Calor / Flogas as needed.

    2. 02

      Specify the system

LPG-version boiler, correctly sized for property heat-loss and hot-water demand. Worcester, Vaillant, Ideal — all available.

    3. 03

      Install & connect

Boiler installed, gas-tight pipework run, regulator and meter checked, full leak test on commissioning.

    4. 04

      Commission & test

Combustion analysis to LPG-specific manufacturer figures. Different from mains gas — needs the right kit and the right baseline.

    5. 05

      Register & service plan

Manufacturer warranty registered, annual LPG service plan offered. CO alarm fitted free as standard.

    Why customers choose Reactive

No guesswork. No upsell. Just the work, done right.

    • Gas Safe LPG-endorsed

Our engineers hold the additional LPG endorsement required to legally work on bulk-LPG installations.

    • Tank-to-boiler full system

We work on regulators, pigtails, changeover valves, meter pressure — not just the boiler.

    • Manufacturer-approved

Worcester Accredited LPG Installer, Vaillant Advance — full warranty terms apply.

    • Fixed-price installs

Same one-number pricing as our mains gas installs. No surprises on commissioning day.

    • Same-week service & repair

Annual servicing booked to suit. Repair calls usually attended within 48 hours, often same day.

    • Free CO alarm

LPG installations always include a CO alarm fitted at the right height for LPG (low — gas is heavier than air).

    In detail

How LPG differs from mains gas — and what that means for your home

LPG is propane (or a propane-butane mix). Heavier than air, it pools in low spots if it leaks — basements, cellars, ground-level vents — instead of rising and dispersing the way natural gas does. That changes where alarms are placed, how pipework is routed (no buried internal runs), and how leak tests are carried out.

Calorific value is roughly 2.5× higher than mains gas, which means burner injectors are smaller and gas pressures are lower. Convert a mains-gas boiler to LPG without changing the injector, and you get incomplete combustion, soot deposits, and serious carbon monoxide risk. Conversion kits exist; we fit them properly with full re-commissioning, not as a five-minute job.

On the supply side, you'll typically have a 1,200kg or 2,000kg above-ground tank from Calor or Flogas, with annual or on-demand top-up. Your contract is with the gas supplier; the tank itself is theirs. Everything from the tank's first-stage regulator inwards is your installation, and that's our responsibility to install, service and repair.

    • New LPG installations

Tank position, pipe route, boiler size, full commissioning. Coord with Calor / Flogas.

    • Mains-to-LPG conversions

Burner injector swap, regulator setup, full re-commissioning. Worcester, Vaillant, Ideal.

    • LPG cooker & hob work

Often forgotten — your hob's also LPG-spec. We service and repair.

    • Tank-side pipework

Pigtails, regulators, automatic changeover valves, meter pressure tests.

    • Annual LPG servicing

Different combustion targets vs mains gas. Requires the right kit and baselines.

    • Off-grid system design

LPG combi vs LPG system + cylinder, sized to demand and tank-fill economics.

    Honest pricing

How much does LPG installation, service or repair cost?

LPG pricing is comparable to mains gas, with a small premium on the boiler itself (LPG variants cost a little more than mains-gas equivalents) and the tank-to-property pipework on new installs.

    LPG annual service

    Fixed price

Full Gas Safe LPG service, flue gas analysis at LPG combustion targets, regulator pressure check.

    LPG combi installation

    Fixed price

LPG-version boiler (Worcester / Vaillant / Ideal), full install, MagnaClean, flush, registered warranty — quoted after free survey.

    LPG repair (parts + labour)

    Fixed price

Diagnosis + repair of common LPG faults — diverter, fan, PCB, regulator, pigtails.

    What changes the price

    • Boiler make, model and kW output (LPG variant)
    • Distance from tank to boiler (longer runs = more pipework)
    • Existing supply pipe condition — replacement vs reuse
    • Regulator and changeover valve included on new installs
    • Calor / Flogas tank coordination required
    • CO alarm fitted free on every install

    Areas covered

Local cover across Northants & Rutland

LPG is most common in our rural patch — Oundle, Oakham, the villages around Market Harborough, and the more isolated stretches of west Northants. We routinely service LPG installations across all of it.

    Who'll be doing the work

    The Reactive engineering team

Our engineers hold both the standard Gas Safe registration and the LPG endorsement, plus OFTEC for oil — all three of the off-grid heating tickets. That matters because most rural Northants properties end up needing one of them, and finding an engineer who can do all three under one roof is rare in our patch.

    • Worcester Accredited LPG Installer
    • OFTEC Registered (oil)
    • CMDDA1 / CONGLP1PD certified
